Access to finance is often a symptom, not the constraint

Limited access to finance is frequently treated as the primary problem facing under-served enterprises. In practice, it is often a symptom of deeper market constraints. Enterprises may struggle to attract or use capital because demand is unstable, value chains are fragmented, cash flows are unpredictable, market information is weak, or supporting institutions are not functioning effectively.

Providing finance without addressing these conditions can increase risk without creating sustainable growth. Capital arrives, but the enterprise cannot convert it into reliable revenue, repay it on the terms offered, or absorb it without distorting operations.

What actually blocks capital

In agricultural value chains, for example, a processor may appear creditworthy on paper while remaining exposed to seasonal supply, weak aggregation, and buyers who delay payment. In light manufacturing, working-capital gaps often sit alongside unreliable inputs, thin local demand, and limited routes to market. In each case, the financing gap is real — but it originates in the market system around the enterprise, not only in the absence of a loan or equity cheque.

Market-building coupled with business preparation drives investment.

Connecting investment design with market-building

CAPIDOM therefore treats fund design, project preparation and institutional advisory as connected work. We help institutions understand the conditions affecting capital deployment and develop responses that improve enterprise viability, reduce risk and support the productive use of finance.

  • Diagnose demand-side, supply-side, institutional and value-chain constraints.
  • Segment enterprises so financing models match operating realities.
  • Prepare the commercial, financial and governance evidence investors require.
  • Design structures that are credible to capital and usable by enterprises.

The objective is not simply to increase the supply of finance. It is to create the conditions through which capital can be deployed responsibly, productively and sustainably.
